Happy Mother's Day Cecilia
How lucky we are that mom, (grandma,) is still in such fine form. On this, her special day, it's the perfect time to update you on her present circumstances.
The photo shows her getting her annual eye exam earlier this week at Lanark Place Retirement Center. With macular degeneration in her left eye the right eye more than compensates after laser surgery last year. In fact with her right eye she can read the bottom line of the eye chart at 10 feet with no glasses!
Her overall health remains excellent overall. She takes minimal medication, is quite mobile with the use of a walker, eats well and is alert and pleasant to other guests and staff. Last month our annual review with residence staff revealed she remains very involved with social interaction and, of course, with daughter Nan now on site as well, she has a well balanced and interesting social schedule.
All in all, life is grand for our matriarch who will celebrate her birthday on June 7 with 87 candles on the cake. As usual, we'll be throwing a little party and hope you can all attend. In the mean time why don't you give our old doll a dingle at 519-749-0958.

Tired of birthdays yet??? Here's another...
Ahhh....To Be 6 Again
A man was sitting on the edge of the bed, observing his wife, looking at herself in the mirror. Since her birthday was not far off he asked what she'd like to have for her Birthday. 'I'd like to be six again', she replied, still looking in the mirror. On the morning of her Birthday, he arose early, made her a nice big bowl of Lucky Charms, and then took her to Six Flags theme park. What a day!
He put her on every ride in the park; the Death Slide, the Wall of Fear, the Screaming Monster Roller Coaster, everything there was. Five hours later they staggered out of the theme park. Her head was reeling and her stomach felt upside down. He then took her to a McDonald's where he ordered her a Happy Meal with extra fries and a chocolate shake. Then it was off to a movie, popcorn, a soda pop, and her favorite candy, Chico Stix, Almond Joy, Mounds, & M&M's. What a fabulous adventure!
Finally she wobbled home with her husband and collapsed into bed exhausted. He leaned over his wife with a big smile and lovingly asked, 'Well Dear, what was it like being six again??' Her eyes slowly opened and her expression suddenly changed. 'I meant my dress size!'
Hope you have an awesome day

To the Birthday girl: Jordan
Happy Birthday Jordan.
It looks like a good year is in store for you. Check out your horoscope...
Born March 9
"You are open to all that is new, and more likely to capitalize on opportunities when they come your way, this year. New beginnings are in order. Your charm is strong, and others warm up to your ideas readily.."
ADAM'S HOCKEY
Adam's hockey team, the Gladiators of the Hockey Association for the Developmentally Challenged (HADC), is having 2 local events and, if you're interested/have time, he'd love to see you there.
The first is a hockey game in Cambridge in March 15 @ 4:00 pm, at Galt Arena Gardens, 98 Shade St., and here's the site for map/directions:
http://www.arenamaps.com/arenas/1358.htm
Next, the Annual Special Hockey International Tournament is being hosted by Adam's club this year (last year, Virginia - 2 yrs ago, England) at York U, April 10-13, and it's always an absolute blast!!! We're expecting about 1500 people (approx 600-700 athletes). Below is the website for HADC and, if you click on "Downloads", then "Special Hockey Handbook 2008", you'll see the tournament info, including schedule. Also, Christien is a coach for Adam's team and he'll be playing in the Canada vs USA Coaches Game on the Saturday morning. Here's the HADC website:

Again, Adam and all of us would love to see you there! If you let us know you're coming to whatever event, we'll watch for you. You can let us know by commenting on this post.
Love
Lorraine

Snow Bound
We paid a premium for a top floor view but looking out the panoramic window now, the view is completely shrouded in blizzard. We might as well be in the basement staring up at the ceiling.
What better time then to while away the afternoon than have Charlotte create then have me participate in the launching of "Whaley"s Web."
Problem is, I've never been very chatty. Good thing too, being married to Charlotte for the past 35 years.
Nonetheless I will welcome the occasional contribution as I keep up with the news and views of an ever expanding family.
Toodles - Mark
The Beginning
Mark and I are held up in Niagara due to the big storm, so the opportunity presents itself to get our family blog started. Oh ya...I am also using this opportunity to teach "Mr. Intelligent Waterloo" about these new fandigle things called blogs and how easy they are to use.
I hope our family blog proves to be a fulfilling tool for all of us. I will send a mass email to provide the link and password so that everyone can contribute as they see fit.
Here's to hearing from you all.
Ciao
Charlotte
